Selskabet kan spore sine rødder tilbage til 1897, med grundlæggelsen af La Crosse Gummi Mills, som valgte at skabe støvler og fodtøj ved en fokuseret fremstilling af gummi og vinyl – senere læder, ruskind og skind. Beliggende i LaCrosse, Wisconsin var det ikke svært at finde på navnet La crosse støvler.
